Energy soup 精力湯

The Whole Food Diet is all about natural. It also encourages people to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables everyday. Most importantly, keep the seeds, skins or pulps that we usually throw away, because they are more nutritious. The best way to achieve that goal is to make "Energy Soup".
Energy soup is a blended drink which includes vegetables, fruits, sprouts, nuts and/or whole grains. Take one or two kinds in each category and blend them together. Sometimes I would add yogurt or soy milk (with pulp) in it. The natural flavor from the fruits and vegetables are sweet enough, so you don't have to add extra sugar. It is great for breakfast or snack at anytime. Since the seeds and skins are all part of the energy soup, I don't have to spend time to remove them, which saves me time in the morning. There are lots of soluble fiber in the soup (drink), keeping me full longer, so it's less likely that I gobble down garbage food that only has calories but no nutrition. We've only tried it for two weeks now, but already I feel less tired and not hungry often. The food is all grinded up by the blender, so the nutritions are easy to absorb. Great for babies and kids who don't like vegetables.

Here are a few "recipes" that we've tried so far. The ingredients are really flexible, just pick one or two kinds from each category (whole grains, fruits, vegetables, sprouts and nuts). I buy seeds on the internet and sprout them myself (see later post). I alternate black sesame seeds, almond, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. I mix brown rice, red rice, barley, oats, and buckwheat together, just cook them before use.

  • Pink Lady: strawberries, sweet red bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, beets (steamed), apples
  • Summer Meadow: avocado, pear, celery, cucumber, Romaine lettuce, kiwi
  • Purple Mist: grapes, purple cabbage, purple yam, blackberries, blueberries
Sometimes I top it with cereal or granola. It is wonderful! Eating whole foods is also a way to respect the nature.
