The twins are over 18 months old now. It looks like I have abandoned my blog. I haven't been posting anything for over 4 months! Well, I have been very busy but happy.
I fought so hard at my last job to work part-time, but ended up leaving anyway. I was fortunate enough to find a hospital that allows me to work part-time, and I have been going part-time for over 3 months now. I get to spend more time with the kids, and it has it's ups and downs, but in general, I am happier than before.

Shrimp in ketchup sauce 乾燒明蝦
It's not easy to find whole shrimps in the supermarkets in US. I bought some shrimps at the H Mart. When we got home and found out that they were with head attached, I immediately thought I could make this for the Chinese New Year. With the ketchup sauce, it is delicious. Kids will love it too! Who doesn't like sweet and sour?

Taiwanese sha-cha seafood noodles 台式沙茶海鮮炒麵
We went to H Mart (the Korean grocery store) on this past Sunday. I love H Mart. The quality of the produces there is top quality. It is pricy, especially beef, but the quality is really good. Plus, it's not close enough to go too often, so it's OK. After shopping, we stopped by the food court for dinner. As we finished dinner, my husband went to bring the car to the front, and I was left alone with the twins. They started to make a scene. They were tied up in the car seat for too long. I couldn't calm them down, but I didn't want to pick them up, either. This was the moment when even the pacifiers didn't work. So many people were staring at us. I quickly push them away from the crowd, but I was still wondering how people would judge me: a useless mom?

Shrimp scampi
I have become so lazy recently. I don't want to do anything, just want to take a nap. The breeze in the hot summer afternoon surely puts me right to sleep. Shrimp scampi is my favorite dish when I go to UNO. I am amazed about the consistency of the dish. No matter which UNO I go to, the taste is always the same. The smooth buttery sauce with al denta thin spaghetti, um ... um ... um ... delicious!! I tried to reproduce it at home, just for fun, and it tasted great!! The tomatoes from my in-laws' garden are just start to ripen. Nothing compares to a home-grown tomato.Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Cream of asparagus and shrimp 蘆筍鮮蝦濃湯
The July 4th weekend is coming, and a lot of people are on vacation now. The morning and afternoon commute seem to be lighter than usual. The weather this week has been perfect, in the upper 70s during the day and 60s at night. We finally got to install the AC system in our house, but now it seems not necessary. Everyday when we arrive home, I can't wait to check out my daylilies. I can see the buds growing. Maybe soon we can see some beautiful daylilies blooming. Seymour is very jealous that he lost the attention to the dayliles, because I usually check him out first when I get home. After checking out the flowers, the cat and the fish, I start making dinner. After we have dinner, I usually make some bread for breakfast the next day. While waiting for the dough to rise, I watch some TV shows with my husband. This is our very simple and ordinary life. It is always good when I have my sweetheart next to me.Saturday, June 18, 2011
Pad thai 泰式炒麵
I love Thai food. Every time I move to a new city, I must look for a good Thai restaurant for sure, and I will become a frequent guest there. My love to Thai food started in a little Thai takeout place on the side of a street. It was owned by three brothers and sisters. The big brother was around 17 or 18 years old, serving as the chef. And the two sisters were so young and so cute, serving as cashiers. I will never forget the naive smiles on their faces, so simple and so cute. Surprisingly, their food tasted much better than the food in some fancy restaurants. Now I always use "Pad Thai" as my test to a new Thai restaurant: if they can't even do Pad Thai right, they probably can't do anything right. After a while, I try to reproduce it at home so that I can be more generous with the ingredients.

Salmon teriyaki 照燒鮭魚
It was very warm and full of thunder storms all day long yesterday. However, the weather today is totally different from yesterday. Although the rain has stopped, it has cooled down to the mid-60s. Don't be fooled by the sunshine and blue sky, the wind feels so cold outside. My in-laws gave us so much fresh produce. Some are from their own backyard garden, and some are from the local grocery stores. I'd better use them up before they've gone bad. I also grilled some salmon to go with the vegetables. Seafood pesto 海鮮青醬義大利麵
I bought a pot of basil from the supermarket last year. As they were growing bigger, I moved them to my garden. I moved them indoor before the winter came, and now I replanted them outside, because ... spring is here!! Basil smells so good, and the best way to appreciate it is to make Pesto sauce.

Going to the zoo! 烤餅乾, 鮪魚三明治
Lat Friday was Good Friday and also the last day of school vacation. I thought it's the perfect day to take my little niece to the local zoo. She is two and a half years old, and this is her first time in the zoo. I thought to see live animals in front of her (rather than in a book) would make her excited.
